An NL West battle in Major League Baseball sees the third-place Los Angeles Dodgers head to Coors Field to take on the fifth-placed Colorado Rockies on Thursday night. After splitting the first two games of this series 1-1, both teams will be looking for a win in the third and final game to claim the series win. The Dodgers recorded a 5-0 win on Tuesday before the Rockies responded with a 9-8 win yesterday. The defeat was only the second loss that LA has suffered over their last seven games as they look to cut into Arizona’s lead atop the division. The Dodgers now trail Arizona by only three games and sit only a half game behind the second-place Giants. The visitors will send out rookie pitcher Emmet Sheehan who is making only his third start of the season. The 23-year-old impressed in his first two outings, pitching 12 total innings and giving up only two earned runs. Sheehan is 1-0 on the year with a 1.50 ERA.
The Rockies have been able to put a few wins on the board lately but they aren’t in a good run overall. The home team has now lost seven of their last 10 overall and sit a massive 13.5 games behind their opponents today in the standings. Not even a week has passed since Colorado’s historic loss at the hands of the Angels which saw them give up 21 runs in two innings for a 25-1 loss. It’s not a surprise to see the Rockies rank as the second-worst team in the MLB with an average of 5.91 runs allowed per game. They’ve now allowed a ridiculous 45 runs in their last four games alone. Colorado will send out Chase Anderson to the mound who is 0-2 on the year with a 5.79 ERA. Anderson has been in terrible form and is coming off an abysmal start which saw him last only two and two thirds innings while allowing nine earned runs off 10 hits.
