There is no bigger game on the opening weekend of the Belgian Pro League 2025/26 season than Club Brugge facing Genk. The Jan Breydel Stadium will see home team FCB face The Smurfs with both hoping to get their new campaign off to a flying start. What will be our prediction for this early season match between two expected title-contenders?
Last season was a dramatic one for both these teams. Genk held a clear lead at the top of the table in the regular season, but a shocking drop off in form allowed both Union Saint-Gilloise and Club Brugge to pass them in the table, seeing them eventually finish third. Brugge looked set for the title but a final day draw, combined with a win for USG, denied them the title in a dramatic last day of the season.
Coming into this game Club Brugge enjoyed a good pre-season drawing 2-2 at Rangers, before a 1-1 draw at home with Rakow Czestochowa and then they beat Union Saint-Gilloise 2-1 last weekend on neutral territory to win the Belgian Super Cup Final. They are now unbeaten in ten games.
Genk's Championship Round collapse last season cost them the title, but they are now unbeaten in their last five including a good pre-season which saw them beat Eendracht Termien 4-0 and Fortuna Sittard 1-0, both away from home. At home, they drew 1-1 with Rayo Vallecano last weekend ahead of this fixture.
