Chelsea will welcome League Two side AFC Wimbledon on Wednesday as they begin their League Cup campaign. The two sides will be vying for a place in the third round of the competition. Chelsea have never played Wimbledon in a competitive match previously. In a friendly meeting in 2014, Chelsea won 3-2. As the hosts arrive for this match off the back of a win, they will be confident of success here. Mauricio Pochettino’s men defeated Luton 3-0 in the league over the weekend to earn their first win of the season. The victory ended a three-match run without a win for the Blues. It was also the perfect response to a 3-1 loss to West Ham a week prior. The five-time League Cup champions will now hope to be as decisive in this match though a raft of changes are expected. Raheem Sterling scored twice against Luton. He might not start here but should be named as part of a strong bench.

AFC Wimbledon did not win in their last match but arrive here having fared better than their hosts in recent outings. Johnnie Jackson’s men have avoided defeat in their last 12 outings and have won seven times in this run. Over the weekend however, they would see a two-match winning run ended by a 1-1 draw with Forest Green Rovers. The Dons have scored in five successive matches. A 2-1 success at home against Coventry in the first round of this competition started this scoring run. Top scorer James Tilley has scored all four of his goals in this five-match run. He should therefore lead the Wombles’ charge here.
