Pachuca booked their place in this round of the international club competition by beating Brasileiro champions Botafogo 3-0 in the Derby of the Americas on Wednesday night. 

However, the Liga MX side have not been at their best recently, with that victory following back-to-back league defeats, which left the club in 16th place in their domestic league standings. 

Additionally, that was the first match in the last 17 across all competitions dating back to July in which Pachuca managed to maintain a clean sheet. 

Meanwhile, Al Ahly earned their Challenger Cup berth by overcoming UAE outfit Al Ain 3-0 in the African–Asian–Pacific Cup back in October. 

Unlike their upcoming opponents, the Red Devils have been in impressive form yet again this season, unbeaten across all competitions and in third place in the Egyptian Premier League. 

Notably, Al Ahly have been very solid in defence lately, maintaining clean sheets in five of their last eight matches across all competitions, including their last two games ahead of this one.
