Cercle Brugge struggled in the Jupiler League last season. They finished 13th in the main table and then bottom of the Europa League Group. Why any side that finishes 13th ends up in that group is all a bit confusing. Brugge had a miserable time in that group losing their last six games conceding at least twice in each match with 20 conceded in all. Their poor form has continued in pre-season with no wins in six games with four of those being played at home. Standard Liege have had good news in the past week with the news they will be in the Europa League group stages this season. That came about after Mechelen were banned due to match-fixing. Liege finished third in the main Jupiler League last season and filled the same place in the Championship Group. Pre-season form has seen them lose just one of their four friendlies. Their most recent game was a 2-1 home win over Nice. Away form for Liege wasn't great last season with five wins in the main season. They did win 2-1 at Brugge last season and can begin this season with another victory.
