The 23rd seeded Caroline Garcia, and unseeded Danielle Collins will meet in the quarterfinals of the Miami Open on Wednesday. In Miami, Garcia has so far had her best run of form this season and will hope to continue riding this momentum. The Frenchwoman had a turbulent start to the year and arrived in Miami with a losing record. She has however improved her record to 9-7 after advancing to this round. Garcia defeated the highly favoured third seed Cori Gauff in three sets in the last round. A win against a top three-ranked player in the world should build up her confidence levels even more. Danielle Collins is a former Miami Open semifinalist. She achieved this feat in her debut campaign back in 2018. Two seasons ago she was eliminated in the quarterfinals and will hope to not suffer this fate again. The American has been in good form this season and having never lost to Garcia has her as favourite to progress. Collins, who has compiled a 17-7 record thus far, has won the three times she has squared off with Garcia. All three victories were on hard courts with the most recent coming last season in San Diego. Collins won her last three rounds without dropping a set. She defeated Sorana Cirstea by the loss of five games in the last round. Advancing to this round has propelled her a massive 12 places up, to 41st in the live ranking. The winner here will play either Ekaterina Alexandrova or Jessica Pegula in the semis.
