Burnley vs Portsmouth Prediction & Betting Tips - Championship

Teams that were two divisions apart last season clash at Turf Moor on Saturday as 3rd-place Burnley takes on 23rd-place Portsmouth in Championship action. There is a huge discrepancy in the position in the standings but is it that simple for making a prediction on the game?

Burnley opened the season with a bang. 4-1 winners away at Luton in their opening game, they thrashed Cardiff 5-0 at home next up. Things have quieted down for them in front of goal since, a 1-1 draw with local rivals Blackburn in their only other home league game.

They will see this as a good opportunity to get back to scoring goals against a team who have struggled so far this season. Only Cardiff are below Portsmouth in the league table and we know how they got on when they had to go to Turf Moor. 

They scored 49 at home when they were last at this level two seasons back and that home form will be required again if they are to get themselves straight back up to the Premier League. 

Portsmouth are yet to pick up a win in their six matches since returning to the Championship but they have picked up a point in each of their two away games. 3-3 at Leeds in their opening fixtures was followed by a 2-2 draw at Middlesbrough.

They seem to play with more reckless abandon away from Fratton Park where they have drawn 0-0, lost 1-3 and 0-3. That goal conceding could be a serious issue given that Burnley has already torn teams to shreds in front of goal this season. That could see plenty of goal action for the fans to enjoy in this one.
