Burkina Faso will be looking to continue with the good run they’ve had, when they host Malawi on Match Day 3 of the AFCON 2021 qualifiers. Going to this game, Burkina Faso are tied at the top of Group B with Uganda on four points while Malawi are third with three points. It wasn’t the best start to this qualification campaign for Burkina Faso as they drew at home with Uganda but they rectified that on Match Day 2 with a 2-1 win away to South Sudan. That win was the first of three, with the team marching on to beat DR Congo and Madagascar in friendly matches. They will be very confident heading to this clash, especially having scored two goals or more in the last three games and with three clean sheets in the last five matches. While they have failed to score on two of their last three home matches, Burkina Faso have not conceded a goal in the three matches and have just one loss in the last 10 home matches. In AFCON qualification matches at home, Burkina Faso rarely finishes second best; in the last 16, they have lost just one home game in the qualifiers – a shock 1-0 loss to Tanzania in 2017. Heading to this game they have a 13-match unbeaten home run in the qualifiers, with 10 wins therein and seven clean sheets.

On the other hand, Malawi started their qualification campaign with a 1-0 win over minnows South Sudan but fell 2-0 to Uganda in the second game. They have gone winless in three matches that have come after the win over South Sudan, losing two and drawing one. In their last three matches, Malawi have failed to score a goal and will be in a very tough situation against Burkina Faso who have been doing well at home lately. Malawi have managed just three wins in their last 11 matches and are winless in the last five away matches across all competitions. Actually, they have scored just one goal in their last five away matches. Their two away wins in the last 18 matches, have come against Comoros and Namibia, in the COSAFA Cup. Meanwhile, they have no win in 20 away matches in AFCON qualification and have lost each of their last five. Malawi have failed to score in 12 of the 20 away matches in AFCON qualifiers while they have conceded two or more goals in 14 of them.
