The 2021 AFCON competition will end in some sort of anti-climax for hosts Cameroon after they were eliminated at the semi finals. They have the chance to end it on a high note though, as they face Burkina Faso in the third place playoff. Burkina Faso put up a brave fight against Senegal, the best ranked African nation but late in their semi final clash, they crumbled and conceded three goals in 20 minutes. They lost that 3-1 and they will be looking to go home with at least a bronze as they face the side that beat them 2-1 at the group stage. The loss to Senegal was Burkina Faso’s second in this competition and they go to this game having failed to score more than a goal in their six matches here. They’ve scored in each of the six matches though. They have two clean sheets in the six matches at this competition.

Cameroon got their biggest test in this competition at the semifinals, and failed to deliver. They had great chances against Egypt but failed to kill the game, which finished 0-0, and the hosts lost in the post match penalties. A positive they carry to this game is that they haven’t lost a game in normal play at this competition. Right before the Egypt game they had scored in all five matches but those were much weaker opposition compared to the Pharaohs. In their opening game of this competition, Cameroon came from behind to beat Burkina Faso 2-1, and they’ve so far scored two or more goals in four of the six matches. Compared to Burkina Faso, Cameroon are better in attack and having managed two straight clean sheets ahead of this game will be a big motivator. Perhaps they will be more fatigued than Burkina Faso, having played their semi final a day later and going all the way to the post match penalties. That will also be made worse by the fact that this game was brought forward, from Sunday, to Saturday.
