Manchester City are going into their second straight away game since being confirmed champions as they take on Brighton on Tuesday. There’s really nothing much for the two sides to play for. Brighton’s survival is secured despite winning just once in the last seven league matches. They have 38 points and are 17th while City are top on 83 points. Brighton are coming from a 1-1 draw with West Ham United, failing to hold on to the lead for the second straight game and ending up dropping points. Against West Ham, their lead lasted just three minutes as Said Benrahma canceled out Danny Welbeck’s 84th minute goal. Earlier, they had a 1-0 lead canceled out by late second half goals as they lost 2-1 to Wolves and had two players sent off. Neal Maupay and Lewis Dunk are serving the second of their two-match suspensions and will be unavailable as Brighton seek a fifth straight unbeaten outing at home. They have three clean sheets in the last four home matches but none of those teams they’ve faced comes closer to Manchester City’s caliber.
Manchester City have eight straight wins over Brighton and they head to this game from a 4-3 win over Newcastle United. While it was a routine win over Newcastle, there’s nothing usual with City conceding three goals in a game and that can only be explained by the laxity coming with being confirmed champions earlier. Manchester City’s focus at the moment is on the Champions League final and that’s the only logical way to explain having conceded five goals in the last two league matches. City have one clean sheet in their last five league matches but scored two or more in three. Four of their last five league games have produced over 2.5 goals, with both sides scoring in each of the four. This will be City’s sixth away match in eight league outings; they’ve only lost the two played at home in that run, and won the six away ones.
