Boston Red Sox vs Cleveland Guardians Prediction & Betting Tips - MLB

Monday in Major League Baseball sees the Boston Red Sox looking to put an end to a nightmarish run when they host the Cleveland Guardians at Fenway Park. A legitimate case can be made that the Red Sox suffered the worst ever three game stretch in when they were outscored 56-8 in two games against the Yankees and a historic 28-5 loss to the Blue Jays. Boston was not able to respond after the humiliation and went on to be swept by Toronto in their most recent three game series. Boston will have to recover quickly as they are still in a wild card race but are at risk of seeing their season fall apart. The Guardians come into Fenway with a 48-46 record which puts them three games off the Twins for the top spot in the AL Central. Cleveland is coming off back-to-back losses against the White Sox in a series that they would ultimately split 2-2. 

Nick Pivetta takes the mound for the Red Sox making his 20th start of the season. The 29-year-old righty is 8-7 on the year with a 4.50 ERA and was the starter in one of the heavy losses to the Yankees just before the All-Star break. Things haven’t been going well for Pivetta on the mound as of late and has given up 20 runs in his last three appearances, totaling just 13 innings of work. For the Guardians, Zach Plesac takes the mound. The 27-year-old will be desperate to get some wins on the board as he sits just 2-7 on the year with an ERA of 4.02. Plesac only made it through three and two-thirds innings in his last outing, giving up five runs (two earned) on six hits and a home run allowed. Plesac’s confidence should be boosted knowing he’s going up against one of the worst bullpens in baseball, so his team should be able to provide him with plenty of run support.
