Bolivia will play host to Argentia on matchday two in the CONMEBOL World Cup Qualifiers on Tuesday evening. The hosts are second-bottom after the first round of matches, while the visitors are in third place. Bolivia come into this match following a 5-1 thumping at the hands of Brazil. That was the biggest loss of matchday one and extended their record to four matches without a win. During that time, Bolivia were also beaten by Ecuador and Panama while drawing against Chile. Looking further back, La Verde have won only one of their last 12 matches dating back to January 2022. That victory came over Saudi Arabia in a friendly in March this year. The hosts failed to win any of their last five matches on home soil, losing four and drawing one. They also failed to score in three of those matches. Up against the mighty Argentines here, Bolivia are the clear underdogs according to the bookies’ odds.
Meanwhile, the world champions were back to business as usual in their last match. They overcame Ecuador 1-0 at home, with Lionel Messi finding the winner in the second half. That marked the fifth consecutive competitive match that Messi has scored for the national team. He has scored six goals in that time. With that result, the White and Sky Blues extended their record to 11 consecutive wins, last losing to Saudi Arabia in their opening match of the 2022 World Cup. They have also kept clean sheets in each of their last five matches in all competitions while scoring 14 in that time. Argentina have beaten Bolivia in each of their last three meetings, scoring two or more goals in each of those matches. Unsurprisingly, they are strong favourites in this one.
