Beveren and Standard Liege opened their campaigns in the Belgian top flight with wins and in the second week, they will face off on Monday, with Beveren playing at home. While Beveren saw off Kortrijk 3-1 away from home, Standard Liege beat Cercle Brugge 1-0 at home. Daan Heymans scored twice for Beveren on the opening week to kill off any comeback hopes for Kortrijk who managed to level through Ilombo Mboyo in the second half and he will be hoping to build on his best ever start to a season when Standard Liege visits. Beveren lost each of their final seven matches in the league last season and after the positive start they will definitely be confident going into a home game against one of the big sides in the league. They suffered three straight losses at home as last season came to a close but in this clash, they will be seeking to replicate their 2-1 win over Standard Liege last season at the same venue when they staged a second half comeback. Six of Beveren’s last seven league matches have produced over 2.5 goals and they have failed to score in five of their last 10 matches while keeping just two clean sheets.

Standard Liege also didn’t finish last season on a high, though they had better stats than Beveren. They have actually scored more than one goal in only one of their last seven league matches. One thing though, is that they have been on top defensively, and have kept four clean sheets in their last six matches. Their defensive form however, seems to go up in smoke when playing away from home; the team has no clean sheet in 13 away league matches and in seven of their last 10 away league games, they have conceded two or more goals. They have scored in each of their last three meetings with Beveren and five of their last seven meetings have ended in over 2.5 goals.
