The Euro 2020 quarter finals are here; Belgium and Italy are set to face off in what will easily pass as one of the biggest games at the tournament. Belgium dumped out the holders Portugal, and will be out to eliminate one of the top favorites, Italy and charge towards their first international title. They won all their group games before beating Portugal 1-0 in the last 16. Only once were they forced to come from down so far in the competition – against Denmark, a game they won 2-1. They are now unbeaten in 13 matches, winning 11 of those and they seem to have addressed their defensive issues, going here with four clean sheets in the last five matches. Roberto Martinez’s side is however facing a race against time to have two key players back – Kevin De Bruyne and Eden Hazard – both injured in the Portugal game. All indications point to the duo missing the quarter finals though.
Italy have so far been the best team at the competition, but after getting off the groups without seemingly breaking sweat, at the last 16 stage, they were made to work for their place here. After a 0-0 draw in regulation time, they needed extra time to dispatch a hard fighting Austria and even after Federico Chiesa and Matteo Pessina’s goals in the 95th and 105th minutes they still had uncomfortable moments. Austria did manage to squeeze in one, through Sasa Kalajdzic, the first goal that Italy have conceded so far. Italy are still the side with the best run at the competition, unbeaten in 31 matches and on 12 straight wins. They have 11 clean sheets in those 12 matches, which also makes them one of the best defensive sides.

Two of the best face off in the Euro 2020 quarters; both have top players in their sides but here it seems the defences will have the big say on how it goes. They’ve both been great defensively in the competition, each conceding just once and it doesn’t help that Belgium will miss two of their best creative players. With the clean sheets seen in recent matches involving these nations, under 2.5 goals seems a real possibility here.
