Belarus have a big task on their hands, hosting Wales in Russia behind closed doors in their Group E World Cup qualifier on Sunday. Both nations are on three points going to the game, with hosts Belarus fourth after three games and Wales third, having played two. Belarus impressed but fell 1-0 to Czech Republic in their third game on Thursday, which leaves them winless in the last three matches. They have now conceded 11 goals in the last three matches, while in their last 10 games, they’ve conceded two or more in six. However, they put up a spirited performance against Czech and will have the belief going into this game. They haven’t been able to add points to their campaign after the opening 4-1 win over Estonia, and have failed to score in the two matches coming after it. Eight losses in 10 World Cup qualification matches, failing to score in six, and only three wins in 22 leaves them as underdogs going to this game.

Wales will also be looking to bounce back after a run of unimpressive results in recent matches. They are coming from a 0-0 draw with Finland in a friendly ahead of this game and while it may have some positives, they’ve now failed to score in three straight matches. However, apart from Finland, they failed to score against two really formidable opponents – Italy and Denmark. This will be a less tougher assignment but Wales have a long list of absentees, including the suspended Harry Wilson and injured Aaron Ramsey. Ethan Ampadu is among players who failed to secure a Russian visa for the trip and he also misses out. Wins in the coming two games could get Wales to second in the group and they will need to seriously improve on their recent form. They’ve won just three in their last 10 outings. They have a better run than Belarus in World Cup qualifiers though, winning four of the last 10 and losing two. In the last five World Cup qualification matches, Wales have three clean sheets.
