Bath Rugby failed to build on their second-round victory over Bristol Bears as they fell to a narrow two-point defeat to group leaders Gloucester Rugby in their last game. The Johann van Graan-led side won the second half by five unanswered points, but a decisive seven-point defeat in the first half saw them fall 19-17 to the hosts. 

They have lost two of their three Premiership Cup matches, but have won their last three home games. Moreover, they enjoyed a remarkable winning streak in their last five encounters with Sale Sharks, three of which by wide double-digit margins.

Sale Sharks ended a three-game losing streak with an impressive victory over Exeter Chiefs in their last Premiership Cup tie. They won both halves, including a 26-0 second-half shutdown, to east past the Chiefs 34-3. However, the Salford-based outfit have suffered defeats in their last four visits to the Recreation Ground to face Bath Rugby, three of those defeats by wide margins.
