Austria welcomes Northern Ireland to the St. Mary's Stadium for this group A match in the Women’s Euro Championships. Both teams lost their opening round matches and need a victory if they are to have any chance of progressing from the group. Austria lost 1-0 to England in their match but can take a lot of positives from the match as they only lost by a single goal to one of the tournament favourites. It was only the second time since 2020 that they failed to score in a match and strangely enough the only other time it occurred during this period was also against England. Austria have only lost twice in their last nine matches with seven wins. Their away record though has not been great as they have only won one of their last five matches on the road.

Northern Ireland were thumped 4-1 in their first match by Norway and this was their fifth consecutive loss across all competitions. They are now six matches without a win with their last victory coming in February when they beat the Faroe Islands. Northern Ireland know that they face an uphill battle as they have not beaten Austria in their only two previous matches. One of the most worrying things for the them is their defence which has conceded 16 goals in their last four matches at an average of 4 goals per game. Northern Ireland have also been very poor away from home as they have only won four of their last 12 matches on the road.
