They should have co-hosted with Colombia, the team they eliminated in the semis, through post match penalties, after a 1-1 draw. Lionel Messi, who has never won a major title with Argentina, now has a chance. He lost in the 2015 and 2016 finals to Chile and was also in the team that lost the semi final to Brazil in 2019. Here they are, unbeaten in their last 19 matches and face the side that last beat them – the 2-0 defeat in the 2019 Copa America semis. Argentina started this tournament with a 1-1 draw with Chile and have grown by the game and head here with four outright wins in five. They’ve conceded two goals in the last five and have three clean sheets while they’ve scored in each of their matches in this competition. In their six matches at Copa America 2021, four have produced under 2.5 goals.
Brazil will miss the services of Gabriel Jesus for this game after being handed a two-game ban for a flying kick on Chile’s Eugenio Mena, which he said was accidental and duly apologized. They didn’t have him in the semis as they dispatched Peru 1-0 and Lucas Paqueta, the scorer in the game is emerging as a very key player for the team. He has scored in the last two matches though Neymar’s hand in the team’s run can’t be overlooked.
