Angelique Kerber is making another strong run for a podium finish at the Olympics. The German won silver at the 2016 Games in Rio which was also her last Olympics appearance before Paris. This year’s edition will also be her last tournament as a professional.

The 36-year-old announced her plans to retire after her tournament ends. Kerber has made it to at least the quarter-finals in all of her three Summer Games appearances. This run began in Palermo where she claimed her first title of the year. A finalist at this year’s Australian Open, Zheng has now claimed 29 wins in 41 outings. To advance to this round, Zheng, who is making her Olympics debut, defeated Emma Navarro in a gruelling three-setter.

The match lasted for three hours and nine minutes and saw Zheng come from a set down to win. From this encounter, the winner will battle one of Danielle Collins, Iga Swiatek or Xiyu Wang for a place in the gold medal match.
