12th seed Andrey Rublev is yet to win on grass this season. He hopes that will change when he faces qualifier Roman Safiullin in the first round at Wimbledon. Rublev is over 110 places above his opponent and our prediction is he will make it into round two.

Unseeded opposition will be faced in the next round, either Botic van de Zandschulp or Aleksandar Kovacevic.

Both of these players have reached one quarter-final in this outdoor grass court Grand Slam and that was in 2023. Rublev also made it to the fourth round here last year. He has only played one grass court match this year, that saw him lose to Hubert Hurkacz in the Halle Open.

Rublev has been in good form in Grand Slam tournaments, reaching at least round three in the last five he's played.

Roman Safiullin was 127th in the last rankings, compared to 13th for Rublev. He had to go through qualifying to reach this main draw and it took him close to eight hours to win his three matches. In the final qualifying round, he had to go to five sets to defeat Jerone Kym with four tie-breaks played.

His best run on grass this year has been a quarter-final in the Nottingham Challenger event.
