Fourth seed Lilli Tagger and Harriet Dart, a qualifier, will meet in the final of this year’s Guangzhou Open. This is the second time the two are meeting this year. With both enjoying good form, plus the emotions attached, our prediction here is a three-setter.
Lilli Tagger is through to her second final of the year. The Austrian recorded her first tour title win when she won in Prague and is heavily favoured to win here.
To reach the final, Tagger, who has dropped just one set this week, defeated Kaitlin Quevedo in the semi-finals. She won in straight sets to record her 36th win of the season. Tagger is ranked 53rd in the live ranking.
Harriet Dart defeated Tagger in their early-season meeting. Coincidentally, this was in yet another championship match, at the ITF event in Fujairah.
She won in straight sets in that showdown in January and will look to that performance to strengthen her confidence even more. Dart has enjoyed her best-ever performance on tour this week and will contest her first championship match at this level.
The Brit, who has won each of her last four fixtures via a decider, came from behind to defeat Xinran Sun in the semis. Dart’s performance this week has catapulted her right back into the top 100, and she is now ranked 85th in the live ranking.
