Third seed Victoria Mboko will be seeking to make another tour quarter-final this year when she faces Alexandra Eala in Hong Kong. The two will face off in the second round to mark their first meeting at the tour level. Below is our prediction for this match.
Alexandra Eala defeated Katie Boulter, last year’s finalist in Hong Kong, in the first round. She won the first set before Boulter pulled out while down 2-1 in the second set.
The win allowed her to break a four-match losing streak, and she will be keen to build on the result. Eala has compiled a 40-25 record alternating between the tour and challenger circuits.
A finalist at Eastbourne earlier in the year, the 20-year-old has moved up to 50th in the live ranking.
Victoria Mboko had to dig deep to overcome Talia Gibson in the first round. The teenage sensation fought her way back from losing the first set and secured victory in one hour and 52 minutes.
The Canadian has now improved to 56-14 and moved to 20th in the live ranking. Mboko produced one of the shock results in the WTA open era when she triumphed on home soil in Montreal as a wildcard.
