Italy will have to be content with the play-offs after they failed to beat Macedonia at home on Friday. That draw left them five points behind group winners Spain but seven points clear of third placed Albania who lost to Spain the same evening. The Italians have won three of their four away games with the other being the all-important loss in Spain. They have only lost one of their last 13 internationals and in World Cup qualifiers have just one defeat in the last 17. Albania did well at the European Championships last year but won't be going to the World Cup next year. A third place finish is no disgrace though and hopefully they will get an easier draw in the Euro 2020 qualifying draw. At home in this group they have won two and drawn two but needed a last minute goal to get a win over Macedonia. The two sides have only met twice in the past with Italy winning both games.
