The 2025-26 A-League men will kick off with matchday one, featuring two teams that underwhelmed last season – Adelaide United and Sydney FC. This match at the Hindmarsh Stadium on Friday comes with our prediction of over 3.5 goals.
The Reds finished sixth last year in the regular season (W10, D8, L8), qualifying for the Finals series but losing in the first knockout match. The Sky Blues finished seventh with 37 points (W10, D7, L9) and missed out on the Finals series.
Adelaide were the champions just once in their history in 2016, while they won the Premier twice, the last being the 2015-16 season. With Airton Andrioli at the helm, the Reds will hope to turn things around, but a lot will depend on striker Craig Goodwin.
Last season's performances were underwhelming for Adelaide, who struggled to make use of their home advantage. They would certainly want to change the record of W4, D5, L4 from the last regular season.
Sydney's coach, Ufuk Talay, is also plotting a move up the table after leading his side to seventh last year. A return to play-offs is the minimum target for the visitors, who will look to start on a high.
