The Rossoneri continued their fine run of form through to their preseason friendlies where they won four out of five, barring one surprising loss to Hungarian side Zalaegerszeg. Milan’s lineup will be largely unchanged from last season, with new signings De Ketelaere and Origi expected to be given time to adjust to the formation of Stefano Pioli. In the meantime, Ante Rebic has been deployed as a false nine in a 4-2-3-1 formation in two of the last three friendlies and has excelled in that role, scoring three goals in those games. Udinese made a great deal of personnel changes in the summer, especially at the back, signing an impressive seven defenders to address last year’s defensive woes. They played with three at the back in their Coppa Italia game, with former Watford players Masina, Deulofeu and Success (both clubs are owned by the Pozzo family) impressing and the latter two scoring the goals.
