AC Milan narrowed the gap on Inter Milan in the Serie A and will be hoping to keep their slim title hopes alive when they host Sassuolo in the next league match. They capitalised on Inter’s draw with Napoli, by beating Genoa 2-1 to hit 66 points in second place, nine points behind the league leaders. Meanwhile Sassuolo have 46 points, in eighth place. Milan have not done well at home, but will be hoping to put up a better show than in previous games. They have two wins in the last seven league matches at home, with one clean sheet and failing to score in three of the seven league matches. Zlatan Ibrahimovic is set to return in this game and his leadership should be enough to inspire the team against Sassuolo. However, an area Milan will hope to work on is the defence, having failed to keep a clean sheet in the last five league matches. Three of their last four league matches have produced over 2.5 goals, with the team scoring two or more goals in three of the four.

Sassuolo are coming from a second straight win, after completing a second half comeback on Friday to beat Fiorentina 3-1. The win keeps them in contention for a place in Europe next season but going to this next game, they’ll need to tighten up at the back, having conceded in all but one of their last 20 Serie A matches. Their poor defensive discipline is reflected in the fact they have conceded the most goals (49) among the teams currently in the top 13 places in the standings. Sassuolo have however scored in each of their last six league matches, and failed in just one of the last 21. They go here with four wins in 15 league matches and two wins in the last nine away league matches, losing six. In the last 11 away league matches, they have two clean sheets.
