Wales vs France Prediction & Betting Tips - Six Nations

by Steve Ashfield | in Six Nations Prediction

Wales host France in their penultimate match in this year's Six Nations Championship. After Saturday's surprising results, these two countries fill the two bottom spots in the table. Wales are bottom and three points behind fifth placed France. A win for Wales wouldn't just be the first they'll have achieved in this tournament but it'll take them above France. There's no chance of winning the title but they will be desperate to avoid finishing bottom of the table. For France, they are ten points behind the leaders Ireland with a game in hand.

Wales - France: Form Analysis

Wales have won the Six Nations and its predecessor several times in the past. However, their main target this year seems to be to avoid winning the wooden spoon for finishing bottom of the table. They prop up the table after Italy's surprising win over Scotland on Saturday. They now end this tournament with home games against France (currently fifth) and fourth placed Italy (that's not written often).  All three of their matches so far have been lost but it could have been a very different story. Their campaign began with a disastrous first half at home to Scotland trailing 20-0 at the break. That was extended to 27-0 but they so nearly pulled off a great recovery and lost 27-26 in the end. Then they went to Twickenham and led by nine points at half time but again went through a half without troubling the scorers and lost to England 16-14. It was a lot harder in their most recent match as they lost 31-7 away to Ireland in Dublin. Wales have lost their last five matches against France. The most recent loss was in the Six Nations last year with a 41-28 defeat. Their last two home games against France have both been lost by four point margins.

It's been an up and down Six Nations campaign for France. They are fifth in the table with two games remaining and after this trip to Cardiff they host England. A loss here would see them possibly go bottom of the table if not earning a bonus point. They lost to the Irish side 38-17 in their opening Six Nations fixture. A tough away game against Scotland followed but they won that 20-16 surviving a late Scottish try being ruled out, seemingly unfairly. Next up came a home match against Italy and France could only draw that game 13-13. They will certainly want to make it six wins in a row against Wales..

Wales & France Squad Analysis

France will start this match with three players who are making their test debuts. Leo Barre (full-back), Emmanuel Meafou (lock) and Nicolas Depootere (centre) have all been called into the starting line-up by head coach Fabien Galthie. Thomas Ramos keeps his place but will be playing at fly-half and replaces the injured Matthie Jalibert. Jonathan Dainty is serving a suspension hence his missing this match. Good news for France is that their captain Gregory Alldritt is back from injury. In total there are eight changes from the side that only drew with Wales.

Wales have also made several changes to their starting line-up. Five have been made with Owen Watkin and Joe Roberts coming in for George North and Nick Tompkins.Captain Dafydd Jenkins will be at blind-side flanker for the first time in a Welsh shirt. Also added to the starting line-up are Will Rowlands (lock) and hooker Ryan Elias.

Our Wales vs France Prediction

Both countries have had disappointing campaigns so far. Both countries are fearful of ending up winning the wooden spoon especially after Italy beat Scotland on Saturday. France have only won one of their three games so far and have made plenty of changes after being held to a home draw by Italy in their last match. Our Wales v France prediction is a narrow win for France.

Wales to win on a +7 handicap

Wales were well beaten by Ireland last week but that was expected. Their two defeats to Scotland and England were narrow ones and with a seven point start they could well beat France.
