Two sides with contrasting PSL ambitions will meet on Saturday afternoon when Mamelodi Sundowns play host to Royal AM. The hosts are currently leading the PSL standings, while the visitors are in 14th place. Royal AM are facing a nervy end to the season. They enter this match on 29 points after 26 games, just five points above Richards Bay, who currently occupy the sole relegation playoff spot. Thwihli Thwahla suffered what could prove to be a costly defeat last weekend, losing 1-0 at home to bottom club Cape Town Spurs. That result marked their third consecutive defeat and fourth league match without victory. In addition, each of their last three defeats were at home, and they have now failed to score in over 300 minutes of football while conceding six in that time. The last time these sides met, Royal AM suffered a 5-1 thrashing, marking their sixth consecutive defeat agaisnt Sundowns, during which time they conceded two or more goals in each game. As a result, it comes as no surprise that the hosts are the underdogs in this one. 

Meanwhile, Sundowns played out an unexpected goalless draw in their last match against Golden Arrows. However, that did not stop them from going on to win the league, currently holding a 13-point advantage over their closest rivals, Stellenbosch, who can only earn a maximum of 12 points before the end of the season. The Brazilians wrapped up the league with five games in hand and are still unbeaten in the PSL this season, boasting an incredible 19 wins and six draws in 25 games to date. The cornerstone of their success has been their defence, which has only conceded a mind-bending nine goals all season and have kept eight clean sheets in 13 home games. The victory lap starts this week for Sundowns, and while they could opt to rotate their squad after a grueling season, we feel they will still have far too much firepower for Royal AM in this match.
