Unseeded Felix Auger-Aliassime bids to make it into round three of the Madrid Masters. To do so he must beat the 19th seed Adrian Mannarino in this outdoor clay court event. In the last 32, the winner of this match will be up against either ninth seed Grigor Dimitrov or unseeded Jakub Mensik. Auger-Alliasime needs some good results in the coming weeks if wanting to get rid of the 'unseeded' tag. The Canadian is up to 31st in the live rankings and that would be good enough to earn him a seeding at Roland Garros. He beat Yoshihito Nishioka in the first round but it was a struggle to do so. Aliassime lost the first set but fought back well to win the next two for the loss of only five games. He's building on his run to the quarter-finals in Munich last week. If he can beat Mannarino, it'll be only the third time in 2024 that he's won two matches in a tournament.

Adrian Mannarino is 20th in the live rankings but he's not doing so well in the ATP Race. That's based on ranking points earned this year and the French player is only 54th on that list. He is playing his first clay court tournament of the year. His last match saw him lose in his first match in the hard court Miami Masters. That made it five losses in six matches since getting to the last four of the hard court tournament held in Dallas in early February. On clay, Mannarino has never made it past round two at Roland Garros and lost six of his last seven matches there. Never has he reached round three in Madrid and lost his last four matches in this tournament without winning a set.  We tip Auger-Aliassime to win this in straight sets.
