From 25 September to 1 October, tennis fans will have their eyes glued to the ATP 500 tournament in Beijing to find out who will succeed Spain's Carlos Alcaraz! One thing is certain: the name of the winner will be different, as the new world number one will not be competing this season.

Cameron Norrie, Britain's only hope

This year, there is only one British player in the main draw of the Beijing tournament. Follow the tennis predictions to see how the world number 34 fares and hope for a good run. After losing in the round of 16 at the Chengdu tournament to Zhou Yi in September, he will have his work cut out for him this time around against Daniil Medvedev in the round of 16. Even though the world number 18 has not been successful in recent months, Norrie will have to surpass himself if he hopes to reach the quarter-finals.

Last year, Billy Harris was the only British player in Beijing and was knocked out in the qualifying rounds. There is therefore hope for this year.

The return of Sinner

The player who has just relinquished his world number one spot to his greatest rival, Carlos Alcaraz, has just returned to this Chinese tournament. Indeed, Italy's Jannik Sinner has not played since his defeat in the US Open final against the Spaniard on 7 September. This was his second consecutive defeat to Alcaraz this season, having also lost in the final in Cincinnati in August. The 24-year-old will be keen to put these two defeats behind him by competing in this tournament in the Chinese capital.

But the Italian is far from being a novice on these tennis courts, having already won the tournament in 2023 against Daniil Medvedev, before once again being the unfortunate loser in last year's final against Carlos Alcaraz. With the Spaniard absent, having headed to Tokyo, the way seems clear for Jannik Sinner, who is unlikely to pass up the chance to add a third title to his season. Winner of the Australian Open and Wimbledon, he is likely to be determined to regain important points in the race for the rankings so as not to lose his place at the top of men's tennis for too long.

Our ATP 500 Beijing winner prediction: Jannik Sinner wins the title!
