A total of 24 nations arrived in Morocco in pursuit of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title, and now only eight remain as we head into the quarter-final stage of the competition. All the teams that are still in the running are ranked in the top 10 in the CAF region, setting us up for a thrilling last eight this weekend.

Which nations have qualified for the AFCON 2025 quarter-finals?

The Round of 16 kicked off with a double-header on Saturday evening, and the 2021 champions Senegal became the first team to book their spot in the quarter-final by easing past Sudan 3-1 and confirming our AFCON 2025 predictions

Later the same day, Mali pulled off one of the upsets of the first knockout round in the competition, edging fancied Tunisia 3-2 on penalties after the match ended level at 1-1 during regulation time. Notably, the Eagles reached the last eight despite drawing all four of their matches to date.

Hosts and tournament favourites according to all the best online betting sites Morocco kept their title charge alive on Sunday after managing to overcome a plucky Tanzania in Rabat, with the current AFCON 2025 top scorer Brahim Diaz netting the only goal of the match in the 64th minute.

Five-time African champions Cameroon battled their way into the quarter-final with a resilient performance against South Africa, where they withstood wave after wave of attacks from Bafana Bafana but managed to hold on to a 2-1 lead despite only having three shots on target.

Monday brought us one of the matches of the tournament so far, as Benin held Egypt to a 1-1 draw in regulation time, but the Pharaohs showed their class in extra time, with goals from Yasser Ibrahim and Mohamed Salah securing the North Africans a 3-1 victory by the final whistle.

Arguably, the most impressive side to this point of the competition has been Nigeria. The star-studded Super Eagles are the highest scoring team in the tournament to date with 12 goals, and they eased into the last eight with a commanding 4-0 victory over Mozambique in Fez on Monday night.

Al-Duhail forward Adil Boulbina spared Algeria’s blushes by coming off the bench to score the only goal of the match against a very impressive DR Congo in the final minute of extra time after the two nations played to a goalless draw in 90 minutes.

In the final match of the Round of 16, defending champions the Ivory Coast sent a clear message to the rest of the teams in the competition that they are not going to give up their crown easily by thrashing Burkina Faso 3-0, with Amad Diallo once again proving key to their success.
