The Summer transfer window is officially open, and clubs in and out of Europe have serious business to attend to before the 1st September deadline. Let’s check out the newest confirmed signings so far in July and transfer rumours breaking headlines.

Summer 2025 Transfer Roundup: 1st July - 9th July

It's been just over a week since the summer transfer window opened up, and we've already seen some major club signings across Europe and beyond. As the 25/26 football season approaches, it's no surprise that title-hungry teams mentioned here are looking to bolster their squads ahead of a gruelling campaign.

What do these signings mean for their respective clubs, and how can they impact our upcoming football predictions?

Jhon Duran - Fenerbahce (from Al Nassr)

  • Position: Striker
  • Age: 21
  • Nationality: Colombia
  • Transfer fee: Loan deal

Jhon Duran has puzzled the football world by returning to Europe barely six months after signing for Al Nassr in a €77 million deal. Although he racked up 12 goals in 18 appearances for Al Nassar, Duran was deemed surplus to requirements following Ronaldo’s record-breaking contract renewal.

Now, the 21-year-old prospect will join Mourinho’s Fenerbahçe side on loan as the Turkish side looks to build on their second-place league finish last season. Duran should be available for club friendlies as Fenerbahçe host Al-Ittihad on 23rd July.

Theo Hernandez - Al Hilal (from AC Milan)

  • Position: LB
  • Age: 27
  • Nationality: France
  • Transfer fee: €25 million

It's not only Al Nassr in the headlines. Rivals Al Hilal have secured 27-year-old full-back Theo Hernandez in a deal worth €25 million. The 1x Serie A and Italian Super Cup champion leaves Milan after six seasons to join the Arabian defensive powerhouse that includes Kalidou Koulibaly, Renan Lodi, Ali Al-Bulayhi, and João Cancelo.

Although the Hernandez acquisition now throws Cancelo’s future into question. Al Hilal will also be looking to build upon an impressive CWC  campaign. Although they'll miss out on the Club World Cup final, they won't be forgetting their 4-3 win against Man City or their hard-fought draw against Real Madrid anytime soon.

Anthony Elanga - Newcastle (from Nottingham Forest)

  • Position: Winger
  • Age: 23
  • Nationality: Sweden
  • Transfer fee: £55M

Newcastle has put the finishing touches on an exciting £55M deal to buy Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest. While not a high-profile name, Elanga has been stellar over the past two seasons, recording more assists than the best Premier League superstars (including De Bruyne, Bruno Fernandes, Saka, and Palmer).

Anthony Elanga will surely electrify an already deadly Newcastle attack that went on to win their first title in 70 years and finish 5th to secure Champions League football. His speed and pressing make him a natural fit for Newcastle’s aggressive front line under Eddie Howe, and together, they'll be looking for another top-table Premier League finish in the upcoming season.

Jonathan David - Juventus (from LOSC Lille)

  • Position: Forward
  • Age: 25
  • Nationality: Canada
  • Transfer fee: Free transfer

Juventus have brought in the prolific Jonathan David from French side LOSC Lille as they look to replace Dusan Vlahovic in front of goal. The 24-year-old recorded 25 goals and 12 assists across 49 appearances last season, ranking third behind Ousmane Dembele and Bradley Barcola in Ligue 1 player goal involvements.

This makes David a perfect pairing alongside Kolo Muani, especially considering the free transfer and lower wages compared to Vlahovic. Juventus finished 4th last season, scoring fewer goals than all three teams ahead of them. Can Jonathan David and his goals propel Juve further up the Serie A table in 25/26?

Arsenal: Targeting Viktor Gyokeres

Gyokeres celebrating a goal

  • Position: Centre-forward
  • Age: 27
  • Nationality: Sweden
  • Reported fee: €70M

Arsenal could finally sign a striker! According to reliable news outlets, the Gunners have agreed to personal terms with Gyokeres’s camp, and both parties are waiting for Sporting CP to greenlight the transfer.

During the 2024-25 campaign, Gyokeres recorded 54 goals and 13 assists across 52 matches in what was another record-breaking campaign for the Swedish sharpshooter. It is the second time Gyokeres has scored 30+ goals in the Liga Portugal, and he would go on to lift the Golden Boot.

Sporting CP is making it clear that they will only consider a bid worth €70 million. Should the negotiations collapse, the Gunners are also linked to RB Salzburg forward Benjamin Sesko. Sesko is coming off an impressive 2024/25 campaign, scoring 21 goals in 45 appearances across all competitions.

Barcelona: What’s next after Nico's rejection?

It has been a frustrating transfer window for Barcelona. Despite signing Joan Garcia from Espanyol (a major transfer target), the Blaugrana are yet to address their lack of depth on the flanks. Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams appeared to be Barcelona’s top choice. But Barca received a shocking blow following Nico’s contract renewal, killing any likelihood of joining his close friend, Lamine Yamal, upfront.

Consequently, Barcelona are looking for a plan-b in Liverpool winger Luis Diaz. Reputable sources say the winger is interested in the Barcelona project, but Liverpool has repeatedly stated their lack of interest in selling him. Diogo Jota’s tragic passing has also complicated the situation.

If the Luis Diaz transfer proves unsuccessful, Barcelona are also interested in loaning Marcus Rashford, who is expected to depart Manchester United this summer.
