Samsonova has the chance to avenge her loss in this clash two years ago in Miami. That encounter ended in three sets, and in our prediction for this match we are backing the same.
Putintseva will be looking to avoid another early exit after her first-round elimination in Toronto. She fell in straight sets at the hands of Shuai Zhang, but having the head-to-head advantage here should boost her confidence.
The Kazakh returns to Cincinnati for the first time in two years and will be looking to go past her best here - the third round.
Samsonova isn’t having an easy campaign and comes here on a losing run. After her fourth-round exit at the Canadian Open, the Russian is on a 15-19 record.
