Wolfsburg have been on a fine run in recent matches and will be looking to gain the advantage in the first leg when they host Shaktar Donetsk in the Europa League quarterfinals. In their last eight matches, Wolfsburg have not tasted defeat, winning five of those but they will be seeking to improve on their last two, having posted straight draws. They beat Malmo home and away in the second round of the Europa League and with German clubs enjoying a good run in Europe, they will be keen to extend the same against Shakhtar. Their 2-2 draw with Union Berlin was considered dropped points but in their most recent game, Wolfsburg showed great improvement to draw 0-0 with Leipzig, to register their third clean sheet in four matches. They have failed to score in just one of their last 10 matches and are unbeaten in four matches at home, with two straight clean sheets. With four straight wins in the Europa League, they will be confident going to this match, and they have three clean sheets in the four. Wolfsburg have scored in each of their last 12 Europa League matches and have registered six wins in 10 home matches in Europa League.

In their last Europa League match, Shakhtar drew 3-3 with Benfica in Portugal. They will be keen not to concede heavily again away in Germany as they have not been strong defensively in the past few matches. They have no clean sheet in the last four games and have conceded eight goals in the process. In their last game, they were headed for another 3-3 draw, until Junior Moraes scored late to hand Shakhtar a 4-3 win over Kolos Kovalivka in the Ukrainian league. It is their away form that they need to address – the last time they were in Germany, they suffered a 4-1 loss to Eintracht Frankfurt and followed that up with the 3-3 draw away to Benfica.
