Wigan Athletic have been a typical yo-yo team in the past few seasons with relegations and promotions aplenty. This time around they are chasing promotion back to the Championship at the first attempt and are second in the table. They trail leaders Shrewsbury Town by a point but thanks to their FA Cup exploits have two games in hand. It's tight with third placed Blackburn Rovers who Wigan lead by a point with one game in hand, so it's in their hands whether they get promoted again. Wigan have had two league wins since being knocked out of the FA Cup by Southampton and kept a couple of clean sheets so focus is definitely back on the league now. They are undefeated in their last six league matches and just one loss in their last nine home league games. In those nine games they have kept seven clean sheets and have conceded just nine goals in 18 home league games.
Oldham Athetic face a battle to stay in League One and start the weekend one place above the bottom four and only out of it on goal difference. They are 37 points behind their opponents but are unbeaten in their last three league away games. Before that though they had lost five in a row. Current form has Oldham with recent wins over MK Dons and Scunthorpe so they are showing a bit of fight as they bid to stay in the division. They have only won three away games all season and it's going to stay that way as the tip here is for a home win for promotion chasing Wigan.
