West Ham United’s charge for a Champions League slot is on course, with the team just a point below fourth place. They’ve however hit a low in the last two matches and will be hoping they return to winning ways when they host Sheffield United. West Ham are placed sixth with 39 points while Sheffield are bottom on 11 points. In their last match, West Ham lost 1-0 to Manchester United in extra time to drop out of the FA Cup. That loss made it two games without scoring, having drawn 0-0 with Fulham earlier. The Fulham draw brought the only clean sheet in five matches, and three of the five have produced over 2.5 goals. In the last nine league matches, West Ham have managed five wins, and one loss. While the Hammers have been impressive in attack in the last few matches, they’ve been a bit loose defensively. In four of the last five league matches, they’ve conceded seven goals and as a result, four of the five matches have realized over 2.5 goals. Another reason for the high scores is that West Ham have scored at least two goals in three of their last five matches. Having kept one clean sheet in the last seven home matches in the league is going to be a concern for the Hammers here.

Sheffield have been in resurgent form lately and from this game they have a real chance to finally rise from the bottom of the standings. However, they have the same defensive issues as West Ham United, having kept just one clean sheet in the last five matches. They beat Bristol City 1-0 in the FA Cup in their last match to register their only shutout in five games. While they haven’t kept many clean sheets, Sheffield have managed to keep scores low even when losing. In the last six, they’ve conceded more than one goal in just one game, and in their last nine matches they have six wins. Five of their last seven matches have produced over 2.5 goals and they’ve won three of their last six league matches. In the three other matches, they lost to more superior sides – Spurs, Manchester City and Chelsea. Their win over Manchester United at Old Trafford is the only away win in the league this season.
