The quest for survival continues at west Bromwich Albion on 26th January when they host title contenders Manchester City. West Brom have so far registered 11 points and are 19th while City are second in the standings with 38 points. The hosts’ return to the top flight hasn’t been easy; in 19 league games, they have just two wins and they have the poorest defence, after conceding 43 goals so far. They have conceded two goals or more in the last five matches and in eight of their last 10. The shock 3-2 win over Wolves remains their only win in 10 matches and this season, in 22 matches, they have three wins only. Not even a new manager has been able to change things; in the last four league games, they have conceded 13 goals and scored four. West Brom have four straight home losses and conceded at least three goals in each. They forced a 1-1 draw with City in their meeting at the Etihad but they don’t seem to be able to pull that again.

City have had to dig deep for wins in their last two matches. They have been forced to wait, and have scored five in the last 11 minutes of the matches. On Saturday, they had to come from down to beat Cheltenham 3-1 in the FA Cup fourth round. It was their 10th straight win and 17th game unbeaten. City have had a great balance in defence and attack; Cheltenham’s goal was the first they have conceded in six matches, while they have scored 15 in the process. They have scored two or more in seven of the last eight matches. In the Premier League, City are unbeaten in the last 10 matches and have six straight wins. In the last 10 league games still, they have eight clean sheets. Away from home, they have one loss and four wins in eight league matches and they have the best defence in the league, having conceded 13 goals.
