Watford’s quest for survival will see them fight for three points when they host Newcastle United in the 35th round of matches in the Premier League. The two sides face off with Watford in 17th place with 31 points while Newcastle are 13th on 43 points. Watford need not to depend on other results for their survival if they can register maximum points in the remaining matches. They beat Norwich in their last game in what would come to be a very crucial win and facing a Newcastle side coming from a heavy loss will be an advantage to the hosts. Watford did well in their last game, to come from down and beat Norwich 2-1. The team’s first win since football resumed, catapulted them to four points above the drop zone and they can only look to build on it when the Magpies visit. It ended a run of three straight losses but they are still searching for the first clean sheet, having conceded in all the last six matches. This has not been the best season for Watford; they started so poorly and only managed to rise between December and January with a six-match unbeaten run. They also impressed in February with a 3-0 win over Liverpool and have shown they can turn around their fortunes with such games as against Newcastle United. Of their seven wins in the season, five have come at home and after the impressive win over Norwich they will be gunning for successive league wins for the second time this season. In their last nine home league matches, Watford have failed to score in just one – the 0-0 draw with Tottenham. With home wins over Manchester United, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Liverpool this season, Watfod will feel getting three points against Newcastle is well within reach.

As for Newcastle United, it has been two outings without a win now and their last match ended in a heavy loss. They were thumped 5-0 by Manchester City in a one-sided game which saw the Magpies make several changes due to injuries. As they prepare for a second straight away match, Newcastle know they are safe from relegation but will do with a higher finish. At the restart, they beat Sheffield 3-0 but have not kept another clean sheet thereafter, though they beat Bournemouth 4-1 at the start of July, making it two wins in six. This season, Newcastle have managed 11 wins; five of these have come away from home but they have won just two of the last nine and they have one clean sheet in the nine. The two sides drew 1-1 in the reverse fixture, making it four straight matches this has been a low scoring affair.
