It is the opening weekend of the Premier League as Watford host Aston Villa at the Vicarage Road upon promotion to the top division. Xisco Munoz’s side finished second in the Championship and are back in the Premier League after their relegation at the end of the 2019/20 season. The Hornets had a dismal start to the previous season and Vladimir Ivic was removed from the hot seat and Munoz has been in charge of the side ever since. Munoz turned the tide of Watford as the North London side conceded the fewest number of goals (30) and registered the highest number of clean sheets (23) under his tutelage. Watford have played three pre-season friendlies so far and are yet to get a win so far. Their final friendly with Crystal Palace ended up in a 3-1 loss for Munoz’s men as Troy Deeney scored the solitary goal for the Hornets.

Just as Watford, Aston Villa also have much to look forward to in the new Premier League season. Despite losing out to their stalwart Jack Grealish to Manchester City, Dean Smith’s men are well suited for a strong finish in the upcoming season. Villa have brought in the likes of Emiliano Buendia and Leon Bailey, significantly boosting their attack. Dean Smith’s side has played four club friendlies before the start of the Premier League with their most recent clash ended up in a comfortable 3-1 win over Salernitana with goals from Danny Ings, Anwar El Ghazi and Ashley Young.
