Both Villarreal and Sevilla are coming from wins in their last outings ahead of their face off in La Liga at Estadio de la Ceramica in Villarreal. They are both seeking high finishes, Sevilla currently fourth with 74 points and Villarreal seventh with 55 points. Villarreal are targeting a fifth place finish, as that’s the highest they can get. That would guarantee a place in the Europa League next season but as they seek that, they are also focused on the Europa League final where they are set to face Manchester United. Jeronimo Rulli and Mario Gaspar will be suspended for this game but Villarreal will be okay as they look to stabilize their run in the league. They have three losses in the last five matches, conceding at least two goals in the losses and in their last seven matches they have just two clean sheets. The height of Villarreal’s inconsistent campaign is in their recent home form, where they’ve managed just two wins in the last nine league games. They have also lost five of the last seven league games at home.

Sevilla are coming from a 1-0 win over Valencia but the draw with Real Madrid and earlier loss to Athletic Club meant they can’t challenge for the title any longer. They can rise as high as second though and with a top four place assured, they’ll have no pressure heading to this game. Sevilla have conceded two goals in a game once in the last six league matches but in the last 12 they lost just once. While Villarreal will be thinking of preserving players for the Europa League final, with some suspended and others injured, Sevilla have the comfort of using any player. In La Liga they are uneaten in the last five away matches, with three wins and in three of four, they’ve scored two or more goals.
