The USA are the current holders of the Women's World Cup and their 2015 success was the third time they have lifted the trophy. It was the first win since 1999 but they have reached at least the semi-final in every one of the previous seven world cups. They currently head the world rankings and have only lost one match since July 2017. That defeat was inflicted by France in a friendly match played in January of this year. Since then they have been undefeated in nine games but drew both of their matches in the SheBelieves Cup tournament that was won by England. The Americans have won their last six matches scoring 23 goals in the process.

Thailand are the top women's team in Southeast Asia but this is only their second time in the final stages of the Women's World Cup. Their only other appearance was in 2015 when they were knocked out in the group stages. They come into this tournament having lost 12 of their last 13 games so hopes aren't exactly high. Their last win was against Hungary in a Cyprus Cup game held in February of this year. Since then they have lost have lost five games in a row conceding 18 goals. Their final warm-up game for this tournament saw them beaten 6-1 by Belgium who are ranked 20th in the world and failed to qualify for this tournament. Thailand are ranked 34th in the world and look to be in for a hard time in this match. Go for over 4.5 goals to be scored in this game.
