Both the USA and Guatemala came from behind to win their quarter-final matches at the 2025 Gold Cup. These two nations will now face off in the first semi-final and we have a prediction for the match. The winner will meet either Mexico or Honduras.
It has been nine years since the USA and Guatemala last clashed. The USA triumphed 4-0 back then and will be looking to extend the same here. The host nation had a somewhat easy ride at the group stages, but their stay in the tournament was severely tested by Costa Rica.
They went behind after just 12 minutes but recovered to play out a 2-2 draw before winning it on post-match penalties.
Guatemala, on their part, pulled off a big shocker in beating Canada, also through post-match penalties. La Azuz y Blanco came from behind to play out a 1-1 draw with Canada in regular time.
Rubio Rubin’s goal in the second half canceled Jonathan David’s earlier penalty. Guatemala’s job was made a bit easier when Canada’s Jacob Shaffelburg was sent off in first-half stoppage time.
A better performance in the second period saw Guatemala hold off the favorites and win 6-5 on penalties to extend their fairytale. Guatemala’s journey has so far included one defeat, at the group stage against Panama.
They’ve beaten the USA only once in their history, a 2-0 victory back in 2016.
