World number 21 Ugo Humbert will take on 49th-ranked Alexander Shevchenko in the final of the ATP Moselle Open on Saturday afternoon. These two have never met on the ATP Tour in the past. The hometown favourite, Humbert, has finally made it to an ATP final for the year and now stands a chance of lifting his first title. Most recently, he reached the quarter-final at the Shanghai Masters, and a week later, he reached the semis in Basel. Humbert beat Dominic Thiem, Harold Mayot and Fabio Fognini in the three rounds of this competition. With those wins, his record now stands at 48-26 for the year and 15-6 on the indoor surface. Can Humbert claim his first tournament win in front of his home fans?
Meanwhile, Shevchenko is also featuring in his first ATP final here and it is a testament to his adaptability. The Russian whose best performances have come on the clay this year has continued his good form here in Metz, following a quarter-final appearance in Basel last month. He beat Mathias Bourque and Mate Valkusz in the first two rounds of this competition but his undoubted best victory came in round three when he overcame compatriot and top 15-ranked Karen Khachanov in straight sets. Those victories have taken his record to 45-33 and 10-4 on the indoor surface. It’s going to take a big performace from the Russian to take down the hometown hero, but he cannot be ruled out despite being the underdog.
