Uganda are regulars at the CHAN finals, and it all has to do with their dominance in their region – East Africa. The Cranes are the best ranked nation in the region. They take on Togo in their second match at the 2021 CHAN finals in Cameroon, having drawn with Rwanda in the opener. Togo on the other hand, lost 1-0 to Morocco and find themselves bottom of Group C. Uganda’s start, the 0-0 draw with Rwanda was timid, and they are lucky to have walked away with a point. Rwanda hit the post twice in the game through Muhadjiri Hakizimana and Jacques Tuyisenge in a space of 10 first half minutes. A better performance will be in their minds going to the second game and their recent run should offer some hope. Uganda have lost just one of their last 17 international matches – the 1-0 reverse when they faced South Sudan in Nairobi, Kenya in November. This time they won’t have their internationally based players but will be expected to have enough ammo to deal with this opponent. For Uganda, this is the fifth straight appearance at the competition. They have never advanced from the group stages. They are unbeaten in the last six CHAN matches, a combination of qualifiers and appearances at the finals. However, in 10 matches played at CHAN finals, Uganda have managed one win – a 2-1 win over Burkina Faso in 2014.

Togo are making their first ever appearance at the CHAN final tournament. Their clubs rarely make it too far in CAF club competitions and so the team is relatively new top such environments. They had some solid defending against Morocco in the opening game of the group, but still lost, and should be planning for a different strategy here. Another loss is unthinkable, if Togo wants to advance but a run of nine winless international matches places them below Uganda. In CHAN qualifiers, they have just two wins to show from the nine matches played, but having beaten Benin and Nigeria to this slot, they will be hoping to sink Uganda. They have no clean sheet in the last three CHAN matches though, and have failed to score in three of the last five. Togo have just two clean sheets in their nine matches in CHAN.
