The football season is back, and as it is the tradition, the DFB Pokal will start it off in Germany, one of the clashes lined up in the first round will have Borussia Dortmund hosted by 1860 Munich. The hosts are coming from a strong start to their season, playing in the third tier of German football. They’ve registered two straight wins ahead of this game and will want to extend the same here. They faced two sides from the big leagues in preseason – Newcastle United and Borussia Monchengladbach – and lost heavily. Three times in the last four matches, they conceded three or more goals and each of their last four matches have produced over 2.5 goals. The 7-0 rout of Rodelmaier in the last game was 1860 Munich’s only clean sheet in five games.

For Borussia Dortmund, this is going to be the first game of the season. They didn’t end their preseason activities in the best possible way, losing both matches before this, but notably, against tough opposition. Dortmund suffered a 3-1 loss to Valencia then 2-0 to Villarreal, and here they will be targeting improvement after managing just two clean sheets in the last five games. In preseason they had a good away run, winning three matches and extending their away run to four straight wins since the loss to Bayern Munich last season. Dortmund start life without Erling Haaland but they should sail past the opposition here.
