After a run of poor results in recent matches, both Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton will be hoping to bounce back when they face off at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in their Wednesday Premier League clash. Spurs will go to this game with a new man in charge after Jose Mourinho was sacked following a spate of poor results. The North London side has so far managed 50 points and is seventh while Southampton are 14th with 36 points. Spurs are five points below the top four and with six games to play, this remains high among their targets but a three-game winless run in the league casts a doubt on their ability to challenge for that. The North London side has some of the best forwards in Europe at the moment, but has suffered because of defensive weaknesses. They’ve managed just one win in the last five matches across all competitions and conceded two or more goals in four of the last five matches, which has seen four of the last five matches producing over 2.5 goals. Spurs had Harry Kane to thank for a point earned in the last game as they came from down to draw 2-2 with Everton. The striker’s brace means he’s now scored five goals in the last four league matches but the team has managed only five out of a possible 15 points in the last five matches. Their last home match ended in a 3-1 loss to Manchester United but the home run hasn’t been bad, with three wins in the last four in the league, and scoring more than one goal in three. They’ve managed four clean sheets in the last six home matches across all competitions.

Southampton are coming from two straight losses, the most recent a 1-0 defeat by Leicester City in the FA Cup semi finals. That was their third loss in the last five matches, and an earlier defeat to West Bromwich Albion leaves them just nine points above the relegation zone. Only West Brom (59) have conceded more goals than Southampton (56) this season in the league and they head here having failed to score in the last two matches and four of the last seven away matches across all competitions. Meanwhile, they’ve conceded two or more goals in the last four league matches, a total of 12 goals, and have lost three of the matches. Away from home, they’ve lost seven of the last eight league games, and won just one of the last 10 – against bottom side Sheffield United.
