Tottenham Hotspur were among the top sides in the Premier League earlier in the season but things have taken a dip towards the end of the season. They will be hosting Sheffield United in their 34th game of the season, in a match that holds more importance to the hosts than Sheffield. Seventh placed Spurs have managed 53 points while Sheffield, already relegated stays bottom, with 17 points. A lot has happened at Spurs on and off the pitch in recent weeks. On the pitch, the last five matches have produced just one win and they’ve been poor defensively, failing to keep a clean sheet and conceding nine in the process. The loss to Manchester City in the League Cup final didn’t help matters and now they have an inexperienced manager in Ryan Mason to guide them through the remaining matches. A top four finish is all that they are targeting now but with five points separating the four teams vying for the position, maybe a place in Europa League should be considered. To get to their targets the defensive weaknesses have to be addressed with the team having on three occasions in the last five matches, conceded two or more goals. Their home form in the league is better though, with four wins in the last five and they’ve scored at least two goals in the four wins. However, they have no clean sheet in the last three home league matches, while each of the last four has yielded over 2.5 goals.

Sheffield United were relegated after the loss to Wolves, though they managed a 1-0 win over Brighton in their last game. They have six losses in their last seven matches and with nothing to play for here, we don’t expect a big fight from them. After a fine first season in the Premier League, when they finished eighth, it was quite different this season, with the team losing 26 matches before their relegation was confirmed. In their last five league matches, Sheffield have failed to score in three while conceding two or more in three of the five. Whereas they’ve scored two goals in the last five league games, Sheffield have conceded 11 in the same run, keeping just one clean sheet. Three of their last five league matches have registered over 2.5 goals. Away from home, they’ll be hoping to stop a run of six straight losses. They’ve managed just one goal in the last six league matches away from home, and they have no clean sheet in the 16 played this season.
