16th seeded Tommy Paul faces lucky loser DominIc Stricker in the first round at Roland Garros. The American has never made it past the econd round of this Grand Slam and lost in his first match last year. If he wins this match, his second round opponent will be either Nicolas Jarry or Hugo Dellien. Paul began this tournament ranked 17th and last week reached the last eight of the Lyon clay court tournament. He beat Gregoire Barrere in three sets beore being beaten by Brandon Nakashima without winning a set. It's not been the best of clay court seasons for Paul. He did reach the final of a Challenger Tour event, losing to Andy Murray. First round exits were inflicted on him in Houston, Madrid and Rome.

Dominic Stricker won two qualifying matches before being beaten by Thiago Austin Tirante in three sets. His 2023 Roland Garros seemed to be over but then he was reinstated as a lucky loser. His only previous appearance here was last year when losing in the second qualifying round. Now thanks to his luck, the Swiss world number 116 is finally in the main draw of a Grand Slam. Stricker has had sucess this year but on the Challenger Tour. The 20-year-old won a hard court title and reached another semi-final. On clay, Stricker recently won a Challenger Tour event held in Prague but then lost to then world number 223 Henri Laaksonen in his next tournament. This is his first ATP Tour main draw of the year and we tip Paul to get the win.
