Switzerland seeks to secure qualification to the knockout rounds of the FIFA Women’s World Cup when they play Norway on Tuesday. The two nations are competing in Group A of this year’s tournament where Switzerland are top and Norway third. Switzerland couldn’t have wished for a better start to the tournament than the one they got on Friday. Inka Grings’ charges defeated tournament debutants Philippines 2-0 to end a seven-match run without a win. The 20th-ranked team in the world arrived for the tournament looking out of sorts as they hadn’t won since last October. They are now only one win away from qualifying for the round of 16. The Swiss have won two of their last four encounters with Norway. They will be confident of doing the job here.

Norway began the tournament by going down to co-hosts New Zealand by a solitary goal on opening day. Hege Riise’s charges had struggled in the run-up to the tournament and are now without a win in five consecutive matches. They have lost three of those matches and have also gone without scoring three times. The one-time world champions have qualified for all nine editions and have only once failed to make it out of their group. They are however in danger here and will exit the tournament if they lose against Switzerland. Norway won 2-1 the last time they played Switzerland, which was a friendly they hosted in 2017. They will hope for the same outcome here.
