Number five seeds Sweden will face 17th-seeded Slovenia in the 2026 IIHF World Championship on Wednesday night. Tre Kronor have never lost to the Lynx in a major competition, and we’re going for the Swedes to maintain that record as our match prediction.
Sweden have yet to find top form in this year’s World Championships, losing to Canada (5-3) and Czechia (4-3), either side of a 6-2 victory over winless Denmark in their first three games.
Despite their mixed start to the tournament, Lucas Raymond has been very impressive for Tre Kronor, already with two goals and three assists. Magnus Hellberg made 10 saves from 14 shots in the last match.
Sweden have won five and lost five of their last 10 matches across all competitions. They have also won their last three matches against this opponent without conceding.
Meanwhile, Slovenia kicked off their World Championship by beating the Czechs 3-2 in overtime before suffering back-to-back defeats to Norway (4-0) and Slovakia (5-4 on penalties) last night.
Roc Ticar was the Lynx’s standout performer in the victory over Czechia, recording two assists. Anze Kuralt was the only player to record more than one shot on goal in the defeat to Norway.
Slovenia have won five of their last 10 matches in all competitions, but only one of those wins was against a higher-ranked opponent.
